Lawrence Amesse, MD, PhD: Director, Palm Beach Center for Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology

Dr. Amesse directs the Palm Beach Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. He directs the Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and serves on the faculty of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University, as an Affiliate Professor of Clinical Biomedical Science.

For over 20 years Dr. Amesse has treated a variety of gynecologic conditions that affect young girls and adolescents. He is nationally recognized for his comprehensive management of young girls and adolescents with congenital anomalies of the reproductive tract and polycystic ovary syndrome as well as performing minimally invasive surgery in young girls. He has a particular interest in patients with pelvic pain often associated with endometriosis. Additionally, Dr. Amesse is an internationally acknowledged expert in evaluating and managing bleeding disorders in adolescents with heavy menstrual periods. He has conducted basic science and clinical research in this area and has published extensively in this field.

Prior to forming the Palm Beach Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, Dr. Amesse served as a Professor of OB/GYN and Pediatrics. He was the founding Director of the Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology Section and the Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Wright State University School of Medicine.

Dr. Amesse is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. He completed fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and received advanced IVF training at Yale University School of Medicine. He also holds the Focus Based Practice Designation for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. His fellowship in Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology was completed at the University of Louisville School of Medicine where he also served as a faculty member. Dr. Amesse is Board Certified in OB/GYN and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility.

Dr. Amesse is a member of the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (NASPAG), and serves as the immediate past Chair of the Pediatric Adolescent Special Interest Group of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). He has received numerous teaching and patient care awards and has been named one of America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists by the Consumers Research Council of America for over 10 years.

Dr. Amesse is on staff the Children’s Hospital at Palms West, Palm Beach Children’s, Joe DiMaggio Children’s, and Bethesda Memorial Hospitals.

Janette Velez, RMA

Janette is a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) and is certified in ultrasonography. She has served as an RMA and ultrasonographer at Atlantic Reproductive Associates for over 7 years. Janette has extensive teaching and direct patient care experience. She is excited at having children and adolescents at our Center. On weekends and evenings she enjoys spending time with her husband and two beautiful daughters, ages 10 and 16 years.

Vanessa Spataro, MA

Vanessa is a Medical Assistant (MA) and joined our team at Atlantic Reproductive Associates in 2013. In addition to assisting physicians and other medical staff with various procedures, Vanessa maintains patient records and is responsible for billing. Vanessa is delighted to assist physicians as they evaluate adolescents and children at our Center. She lives in Plantation, Florida with her husband and their three boys, and enjoys running and spending time with her family.
